There are two museums at Kukkolaforsen

The Tornedalens Fiskemuseum exhibition is about fish and people in the Tornedalen region. Fishing has always played an important role for the people of the Torne Valley – as a source of food and income, and also as part of the culture.

The museum consists of different rooms:
IN THE WORLD OF FISH – Many different species of fish swim in the Torne River basin. Here you can see 12 different species filmed underwater.
FISHING METHODS – Throughout history, many different fishing methods and gear have been used to catch fish. The ingenuity has been great and everything from simple rods to large and complicated gates have been used.
PEOPLE AND FISH IN THE TORNEDALE – Fish have colored life in the river valley in many different ways. Fishing can be relaxing or provide a livelihood. Festivities, competitions and rituals are organized around fishing – whitefish festivals, salmon festivals, angling competitions, ice fishing competitions, etc.

A living sauna museum

At the Sauna Museum in Kukkolaforsen, new knowledge about the development of sauna culture through the ages awaits you. Here you can visit different types of saunas with historical connections, learn about the positive health effects of sauna bathing and find out all about how to best conduct a sauna bath. And it’s not about burning the stove red-hot and competing to see who can last the longest. No, this type of sauna bathing has nothing to do with well-being and can even be harmful to your health. The recommended temperature is 65-70 degrees. Then you can swim for a long time and feel good, all the time.
