National River Day is celebrated on the third Saturday in August. National River Day was first celebrated in 1996. The purpose of the day is to honour our national rivers, which give us vitality, inspiration, experiences, passion and daily bread. Our myths and dreams reflect the great importance of free water for humanity. So National Rivers Day symbolises much more than protecting wild salmon or preserving our own free rivers. For only people who care for their water can share its life-giving power.

In 2025 we are not organizing a special program for the day.
